2005 | The first spumante wine from Carricante

The best expression of Etna in white grapes is Carricante, name given by winegrowers from the area around Viagrande (South-East slope of the volcano) that refers to the high productivity of the variety: they referred to Carricante as a plant loaded (“carica”) with fruit.

Thanks to Mr. Giuseppe Benanti’s insight, with 2002 grape harvest Carricante was used for the first time as basis to produce spumante wine with the traditional method. Coolness, mineral taste, tastiness and elegance of the aroma are elements that can be found in this valuable local wine variety, able to produce spumante wines as ‘blanc de blancs’ with classical method with high acidity and verticality, same as those produced with red grapes of Nerello Mascalese.
